SCIENCE MUSEUM 560,000 SF

Higgins Development Partners was selected by the Museum of Science

and Industry to serve as development manager for the design and
construction of their $43 million park restoration and underground
visitors’ center. The project includes a 1,500-car underground parking
garage, a new 35,000 SF underground lobby and exhibition area, and
the renovation of the existing lobby, museum foyer and gift shop. The
garage contains a glass enclosed exhibit of the Burlington Zephyr train
originally designed in the 1930s.
A particularly significant aspect of the project was the technical
challenge of attaching an underground garage to a 100 plus year old
structure immediately adjacent to Lake Michigan.
